On October 2, 2018, Northway Faction attempted to assassinate Egor Krupin, the acting leader of the Anti-Northway Faction Coalition. The attack took place on Krivorozhskaya Street in Moscow. Despite the efforts and planning, Krupin managed to survive the assassination attempt, successfully killing the NTF hit squad and escaping.
Background
On September 26, 2018, during the armed dispute within Northway's leadership, Kovac proposed to Volkov the idea of killing Krupin. Despite Volkov's initial reluctance, Kovac managed to convince him that Krupin was a «lost cause». Using information gathered from interrogating captured coalition members, Northway began planning an ambush on Krupin's forward operating base.
Operation
On October 2, as Krupin was leaving the FOB, four armed NTF members emerged from a nearby parked van and immediately opened fire on him. Krupin was hit once in the right leg and took cover. His personal bodyguards exchanged fire with the attackers and within an hour all four gunmen were eliminated. Krupin was later escorted to safety. The entire incident lasted only one hour and 24 minutes.
Aftermath
Despite the attempt on his life, Krupin surprisingly held no grudge against Volkov. He assumed that he had been manipulated by Kovac, so he believed that Volkov was not capable of such an act.
