Operation Secure Transfer was a conspiracy between Mikhail Kovac, the second-in-command in Northway Faction, and Boreas Research Facility. The plan was to stage Kovac's death, send the photo of the supposed corpse to Nikolai Volkov, and secretly join Boreas. The main idea of the plan was developed on December 29, 2018, a day since the beginning of the NTF/BRF war. It was implemented on January 2, 2019. This conspiracy led to the beginning of the First Intergroup War.

Cause

It is unknown as to why Kovac conspired with Urakolouy. Some suggest that he was doing this to amuse himself, while others say that he had a dispute with Volkov.

Operation

In the morning of January 2, 2019, Kovac arrived at the rendezvous point with Boreas Research Facility operatives. Beforehand, Kovac told Volkov that he was going to «personally raid» a BRF safehouse. Some reports say that even Urakolouy himself was present at the meeting.

After meeting with the operatives, Kovac drenched himself in fake blood and then proceeded to lie on the ground as if he had been shot dead. BRF operatives then took a picture and sent it to Volkov. Both parties quickly exfiltrated the area to avoid incoming Northway reinforcements.

Aftermath

Horrified by the death of his closest ally and advisor, Volkov ordered the immediate surrender of Northway. As Volkov was planning on leaving Russia, he was informed by an intelligence operative that Kovac had faked his death and joined Boreas. As a result, Volkov was furious and personally declared war on Kovac and Boreas Research Facility, officially kicking off the First Intergroup War.
