Western Northway Group, sometimes called Western Northway Gang, US Northway Faction (WNTFG) was a small cell of Northway Faction based in New York City, United States. It was established on August 24, 2018, and disbanded on January 17, 2019. Its leader was Bruce Norton, a contact of Mikhail Kovac from 2014.
History
Background
During the summer of 2018, Northway Faction was rapidly expanding. The organization was slowly taking control of the southern parts of Moscow, recruiting more people and gaining more power in Russia. Volkov, who had seen many dramatic films about crime in the United States, wanted to expand his organization to the West. On August 24, 2018, with the help from Kovac, the organization managed to establish a very small cell in New York City. This cell consisted of only 15 members, all immigrants from France and Spain.
Activities
Once established, the cell slowly began to expand. The group began to recruit members from other gangs, particularly the Crips. As for the weaponry and equipment, most of them were imported illegally by Northway Faction. The first and last cell leader to be appointed was Bruce Norton, a contact of Kovac from 2014. Norton agreed to work for Northway on one condition — he would be receiving a much higher salary, around $6,000 a month (for reference, a regular Northway member earned around $1,500 a month).
During the armed struggle within Northway's leadership, the group remained largely dormant as Norton feared that Northway would disband and he would be arrested. Once the dispute was resolved, the group resumed its operations.
Dissolution
On January 2, 2019, Northway Faction was formally disbanded by Volkov due to the apparent death of its second-in-command. This meant that the western cell of the organization would also be disbanded. The Western Northway Group was effectively dissolved on January 17, 2019, just 15 days since the beginning of the First Intergroup War.
At the same time, Norton was extremely unhappy with Volkov's actions during Northway's existence. Shortly after the group disbanded, Norton garnered some close friends within the WNTFG and established FinsetModen. Volkov saw this as an act of betrayal and soon declared a war on the newly established organization.
